Hello, wonderful moms! Welcome to Day 1 out of 5 of Ideas to Get You and Your Family into the Christmas Spirit! As the holiday season approaches, it’s the perfect time to think about how we can create cherished memories with our children.
Afterall, Christmas is all about family, love, and traditions!
Here are five festive ideas that will not only bring joy to your home, but also involve your kids in the spirit of giving and celebration.
1. Baking Cookies: A Sweet Holiday Tradition
What’s Christmas without the sweet aroma of freshly baked cookies filling your home?
Set aside a day for a fun cookie-baking session with your kids. Gather your favorite recipes and let the children take the lead!
Allow your little ones to decorate the cookies with icing and sprinkles—it’s all about the fun and the memories you create together!
Here is the recipe I use every year when we bake cookies.
You could even leave out the chocolate chips and let them decorate them instead.

____________
2. Sending Christmas Cards: A Personal Touch
Involve your kids in choosing or making cards to send to family and friends. Have a fun crafting session where they can draw or paint their own designs.
This not only teaches them about the joy of giving and sharing but also allows them to express their creativity. Imagine how special it will feel for your loved ones to receive a card made with love by your little artists!
____________
3. Christmas Movie Day or Night: Cozy Family Fun
Get cozy with your family for a dedicated Christmas movie day or night. Create a lineup of classic holiday films—think “Home Alone,” “The Polar Express,” or “Elf.”
Snuggle up with blankets, popcorn, and hot cocoa. To make it extra special, let the kids pick a movie and help set up the “home theater” by dimming the lights and creating a comfy space with pillows. We even turn on our fireplace to make it more “Christmas-y”.
This tradition not only entertains, but also sparks heartwarming conversations about the themes of the movies (teacher side is coming out).

____________
4. Gift Wrapping Party: Make It Festive
Turn the somewhat tedious task of gift wrapping into a festive party!
If there is one thing I do not like about this season, it’s wrapping presents. Most because I am not good at it.
Gather all the gifts and let your little ones help decorate the wrapping paper, tie bows, and place tags. Set the scene with holiday tunes and maybe even some festive treats. This is a great opportunity to teach them about the joy of giving and the excitement of surprises.
I use a paper cutter, which does make the job easier! Plus, it can be used throughout the entire year, and not just at Christmas time.

____________
5. Gingerbread House Decorating: A Creative Challenge
This Christmas tradition is one that my mom does with my children every Christmas, usually at the beginning of the December.
You can either bake your own gingerbread pieces or buy a kit for an easy setup
Create a decorating station with colorful icing, candy canes, and various edible decorations. Allow your children to unleash their creativity; you might be surprised by the unique designs they come up with.
A great idea would be to purchase a gingerbread village, especially if you have multiple children, so they can each create their own house.

____________
Wrap Up Your Holiday Season
These traditions are not just activities; they are opportunities to bond, create, and cherish the spirit of Christmas with your family.
Starting memories now is a great way for your children to pass down traditions on to their families one day.
Christmas doesn’t have to be a time of just spending money, but a time of creating memories with family.
